“It’s all about the butter, baby!”

Here’s the other side of Ruth MacBean, owner of Teatime Delicacies, Inc.  I started Teatime almost by accident.  I was a musician, a club singer over 30 years ago in New York City.  Different life, different marriage.  When I first landed in Alexandria VA I was bar tending at a restaurant that was having some problems with their wholesale dessert supplier.  The owner knew that I liked to cook and asked me to give it a whirl.  So I started out making 8 Sweet Potato Pecan Pies a week.  In a year I was doing all the desserts, in a few years I was doing his other restaurants.  Then came the wedding cake calling and full scale catering and I thought, “hey, maybe I can actually make a living doing this!”

My background is in theater and music, and I have found catering to fill many of those artistic needs and cravings.  Does it get any better than throwing party after party and getting PAID to do this?!  Feeding people, there is something so rewarding about getting the immediate feedback that you are making someone very happy.  And every party/event is a different adventure.  Each bride/groom is a personal milestone, each cake is for an individual celebration.  I really, really DO love what I am doing, how many people get to say that?  Best staff, great food, lots of laughter, and lots of hard work.

But the guitar…THAT’S something I’ve done even longer.  I have played a twelve string guitar for over 40 years.  And while I love my catering gig, I also love singing with my church band Spiritwind every Sunday morning.  Standing in my sea of electronic cables, I get to sing, wail, and pound out those songs.

Yeah, baby.  It’s all good.
