Comfort Food Ideas for Wedding Reception

What is not to like about the above photo?  Wikipedia defines Comfort Food as “traditional food which often provides a nostalgic feeling to the consumer, and is often characterized by a high carbohydrate level and simple preparation. Comfort foods may be consumed to positively pique emotions, to relieve negative psychological effects or to increase positive feelings.”  In other words, we like them because they taste really good.
It is an interesting idea to incorporate this type of menu into a catered wedding reception.  A couple may not want the buffet to resemble a high school cafeteria menu or take out from IHOP, but creative comfort food is an awesome idea.  Who doesn’t live Mac ‘N Cheese?  It’s not just for kids.  Teatime Delicacies, Inc has prepared a 5 cheese Baked Bow Tie and Cheese with Panko Parmesan Crust as a side dish.  It was devoured.

 We knocked this classic on it’s ear by using Brie, dipping the sandwich into a light egg batter and grilling in butter, then topped with a dollop of Raspberry Jam.  Cut into bit size portions on a toothpick, it has all the qualifiers:  butter-sweet-bread PLUS cheese!

 Breakfast foods such as donuts or waffles.  And Fried Chicken.  Throw it all together and how about Chicken And Waffles for an appetizer?

 In one study of American preferences, “males preferred warm, hearty, meal-related comfort foods (such as steak, casseroles, and soup) while females instead preferred comfort foods that were more snack related (such as chocolate and ice cream.  The study also revealed strong connections between consumption of comfort foods and feelings of guilt.  To THAT I say bring it on, baby.
