Historic Rental Properties Northern Virginia
Wedding Ceremony at Blenheim House |
Saturday Catering By Teatime was blessed with balmy spring weather – finally – and we catered a wedding reception at the Historic Blenheim House in Fairfax City, VA www.fairfaxva.gov/government/historic-resources/civil-war-interpretive-center
This historic property is a surprise even to some long time Fairfax County VA residents.
is a central-hall plan brick
farmhouse built by Albert Willcoxon (c. 1859) just prior to the Civil
War (1861-65). It is nationally significant for the more than 120
signatures, art, games, thoughts, and poetry left on the house walls by
Union soldiers during their occupation of the Fairfax Court House area
in 1862-63. The house contains one of the most voluminous and
best-preserved examples of Civil War inscriptions in the nation, a
“diary on walls” providing insight into typical soldier life during the
Civil War as well as the effect of the war on local residents such as
the Willcoxon family. House inscriptions and pictographs are also reproduced and discussed in
detail in the replica attic with full-scale images in the Civil
War Interpretive Center.
There is a new visitor center on the property that can host smaller events (or larger events if renting a tent). The surrounding grounds sets a beautiful country backdrop for a wedding ceremony as shown in the above photograph.
Inside the main gathering room, we seated approx 60 guests for a buffet reception.

Catering in the Washington DC and Northern Virginia community this spring has been interesting: weather seems to be all over the map. Saturday was glorious. Guests enjoyed a wine and beer selection set up in the lobby area of the visitor center,

And of course a wedding reception catered by Teatime would not be complete without one of Ruth’s famous wedding cakes, this time her Brownie Wedding Cake.
