This weekend’s  catered wedding reception took place at the fabulous Thomas Birkby House in Leesburg VA www.birkbyhouse.com/ .  The wedding cake, yellow butter with fresh raspberry filling and Red Velvet with cream cheese filling, is sitting inside the front room of the venue’s historic house.  It is decorated with the bride’s colors of blue and purple featuring small clusters of hydrangea, sweetheart roses and miniature calla lilies.  Traditionally we like to display the wedding cake inside until cake cutting time, then we either transport it to the gazebo or into the tent for cutting.  Friday night we had SERIOUS weather going on in the Washington DC metropolitan area, so the gazebo was going to be out of the question, but cutting in the tent went without a hitch.

Plan B was to have the ceremony inside the tent instead of on the courtyard.  After the ceremony, all the guests were escorted to the main house for the cocktail hour.  The bar was set up outside in a covered patio while the guests enjoyed passed appetizers of Quesadilla Wedges, a stationary display of Assorted Domestic and Imported Cheeses and Crackers, and a Fresh Vegetable Basket with Hollowed Cabbage Filled with Dip.

While the guests enjoyed their cocktails and appetizers, Teatime and Birkby staff “flipped” the tent room from ceremony to guest seating.

This venue provides one of the most beautiful tents in the Northern Virginia area.  Chandeliers provide romantic lighting for the perfect ambiance of a wedding reception.  This particular event hung lanterns for an additional touch.

The main buffet style reception featured Ruth’s House Salad; Chicken Marsala; Steamship Roast of Beef; Fresh Fruit Arrangement; Penne in a Vodka Sauce; Garlic Roasted Red Bliss Potatoes; Bread and Rolls.  And of course:  Wedding Cake!
