Well, the wedding cake was carrot cake and cream cheese filling.  Does anything else REALLY matter?!  But I digress, let’s go back to the beginning.  Saturday night’s event was held at a new venue for us, the Reston Community Center in Reston Virginia.

Large Meeting Room at Reston Community Center

The venue makes available a number of different rental spaces, this being the largest space and suitable for wedding reception, or any large party. There is a full kitchen adjacent to the room, tables and chairs, and there is local art work on one of the walls entering the space.  It is a very affordable space, www.restoncommunitycenter.com

Heather and Mike enjoyed bruschetta, cheeses and crackers, sweet and sour meatballs during their cocktail hour.  For dinner, they enjoyed Jamaican Jerk Chicken on Bamboo skewers,

a chicken entree that starts out in a 17 ingredient marinade, grilled, sliced, skewered with a sauce along the side.  And if it wasn’t hot enough for you, there were TWO additional bottles of hot sauce to fire it up!

For centerpieces, they provided small square glass vases, filled with a jelled beading that retains water, placed a small battery operated light in the bottom, then a white rose or cluster of roses on top.  The effect being a light from the bottom of the base beneath the rose!  Pretty cool!  Heather’s main color was this same shade of blue in a ribbon we tied around each of the rolled cutlery.  It is also featured in the wedding cake we created for the two.
