Recently we had the privilege of catering a memorial service at the Potomac Boat Club, a private club on the Potomac River in Washington DC www.potomacboatclub.org
The first PBC boathouse stood at the foot of Congress Street — what is now 31st
Street in Georgetown. It was a “rough building erected by the members”
and was replaced by a larger structure on the same site. This building
was rebuilt in 1875. According to a news account, the building was “a
model of its kind in America, and even today is the envy of many of the
rich clubs of the North.” The building housed “seventy-three private
crafts, thirty-three of which are the beautiful canoes that are now so
popular on the river.” The current PBC boathouse, located at 3530 Water
Street NW, was built in 1908.
It has a breathtaking view, no doubt about it.

It was a chilly April afternoon, with wind gusts that prevented any regattas on the river. Inside the venue, a rustic and charming space allows a group of 100 guests to gather for a variety of special occasions: wedding receptions, graduations, anniversary dinners, or in this particular case – a memorial service for one of it’s members.

Guests gathered for a service, then enjoyed our wine and beer bar as well as two buffets of Heavy Appetizer fare.

For the hearty, a guest could enjoy a glass of Pinot Grigio or Malbec, and walk through the French doors onto a patio with sweeping views of the Potomac River.
We set up two buffet menus, one with Fresh Fruit; Assorted Domestic and Imported Cheeses with Crackers; Assorted Miniature Desserts that included Russian Teacakes – Apple Bavarian Torte – Chocolate Fudge Truffles.

An alternative buffet included Ruth’s Sugar Spiced Apple Wood Smoked Salmon Filet; Grilled Garlic Lime Chicken on Bamboo Skewers; Assorted Finger Sandwiches with fillings to include Chutney Chicken Salad, Smoked Turkey Breast, Pimento Cheese.
Catering By Teatime is a smaller Northern Virginia caterer servicing NOVA as well as Washington DC and the surrounding MD counties. It’s exciting to discover a new venue, looking at the city from a new vantage point.
