Penne Pasta in a Vodka Sauce |
Saturday’s wedding took place at the Briar Patch Bed and Breakfast in Middleburg VA www.briarpatchbandb.com/ on a sensational November afternoon of mid 60’s! Congratulations to Adri and Will as they pose with Ruth after a night of some serious dancing!
They took an unconventional route with their wedding cake opting for a small two tier design, complemented with two different dessert options. The first was a chocolate fudge trifle, layers of chocolate fudge cake – Bavarian cream – whipped cream – fresh raspberries and blackberries, and a thorough soaking of sherry. This is of course how trifle earned it’s nickname “tipsy pudding”. We also served a sugar free option made with Splenda as we had a number of guests with dietary concerns.
The second dessert served along with the trifle and wedding cake (which by the way was a yellow butter cake with fresh strawberry filling) was a pumpkin creme brulee. Sublimely rich with a slight brown sugar crunch, we also served a sugar free version along side the other offerings. We also threw in a couple plates of white chocolate brownie bites for good measure!
Yet dessert wasn’t the only highlight of this reception. Our cocktail hour featured passed miniature country ham biscuits, a perfect fit for a country inn. The main buffet featured a Grilled Jamaican Jerk Chicken along with a Carved Steamship Round of Beef and Hunter Sauce. Above is a glimpse of the Penne in Vodka Sauce, always a big hit. And in case one starch option isn’t enough for you, we added Garlic Roasted Red Bliss Potatoes. Garlic and butter, what’s not to love?
The night before we also catered the rehearsal dinner at the same venue serving a Roasted Tenderloin of Beef, Spiral of White and Sweet Mashed Potatoes, Shooters of Butternut Squash and miniature Raspberry Truffle Chocolate Brownies.
Briar Patch has a very relaxed vibe, guests have access to a beautiful reception facility, and can stay right next door at the bed and breakfast so no one has to drive. The weather really worked out in their favor, they were able to have their ceremony up the hill and behind the venue in a meadow overlooking the mountains and surrounding Virginia countryside. This is a venue I highly recommend. Peaceful, beautiful, a little unusual. What more could a bride and groom ask for?!
