Just Married!

There are countless blog posts on wedding tips, I know.  I will keep it simple with five vendors, five insights for a wedding or wedding reception.  Some thoughtful, some practical, one just funny.

Five Great Tips from Five Wedding Vendors

1.  The Wedding Planner:  “Don’t get so caught up in wedding details that you forget about each other.”  Not unlike occasionally going “unplugged” for a day, set aside time each day to NOT talk about the wedding.

2.  Invitations:  “Don’t obsess about the exact look to the point you end up running late with sending the invitations out to the guests.”  I didn’t even know that actually happens; seems obvious, but again a great common sense piece of advice.

3. The Caterer:  “Don’t invite 200 guests when you only a budget to feed 100.”  People come to a wedding reception to eat, drink, and maybe some dancing.  They do not want to have to stop at restaurant on the way home from the reception because they are hungry.

4. The Officiant:  “Put as much thought into the ceremony as you do the reception.  And put as much thought into the marriage as you do the wedding.”  The officiant is the one vendor that is absolutely necessary for a wedding to take place.  Sage advice.

 5.  The Musicians:   To All Who Moan About the Cost of Musicians – A guy calls the musicians’ guild to get a quote for a wedding. The rep says “off the top of my head, about $2,000”.  The guy says “WHAT?  FOR MUSIC?”  The rep responds with “I tell you what.  Call the plumbers’ union and ask for six plumbers to work from six til midnight on a Saturday night.  Whatever they charge you, we’ll work for half.”  Hope that made you smile!  If you cannot afford a live band, don’t haggle.  This is how these folks make their living.

Five vendors, five great tips.  Planning a wedding and reception should be fun and one of the best times of your lives.  Sometimes it just helps to remember KISS –  Keep It Simple Silly. Not always easy in Washington DC!
