Naked Wedding Cake
The first time a bride requested a naked wedding cake I remember thinking, what the heck is a naked wedding cake? Does this mean I do not use frosting? Do I flip the cake out of a pan onto a plate and say here ya go? But I love a cake challenge, so I do a little research. My initial reaction is this is a cake that looks like I am decorating and I run out of time. The more time I spend making it look perfectly unfinished (i.e. naked) the more I love the look. Yet, the cake in the above photo also has a charming back story.
The Story of the Wedding Plum
The bride and groom have a picnic first date under a plum tree. When they become engaged, the groom presents the ring in a box with a plum. They would like me to figure out a way to incorporate plum(s) into the wedding cake. Well, you can see there are plums on the top, but I do not want to slice fresh plums and place them on the cake as it will leak juice all over the wedding cake. Light bulb moment!! I made a heavenly plum sauce to serve along side each slice of wedding cake. Guests come back for seconds and thirds!! This is not the first time for sauces and cakes. Previously I created a marvelous guava and passion fruit sauce to serve with the cake – delicious as well as colorful.
Creating a Wedding Cake Memory
There are so many details when a couple is planning a wedding reception. While Catering By Teatime offers full service catering and the wedding cake is part of the package, our cakes can tell a story. We have created replicas of the Capitol, Tiffany Gift Boxes, Towers of Brownies, Two Faced Cakes, just to mention a few. Some couple simply do not like cake. Not a problem, we can do an assortment of bite sized desserts. Show me a picture, tell me a story. This is your special day and we want to create a memory. A naked wedding cake is not so terribly naked after all!
