Catering During Covid
Fourteen months is a long time in the world of catering during COVID here in the Washington DC, Northern Virginia community. Remember when we all thought this would be a couple of months and then the wedding receptions will be back with gusto? I am a Virginia caterer with 0ver 38 years of experience, and the pandemic is devastating my industry. Nearly every wedding and wedding reception in 2020 either rescheduled (some multiple times) or eloped and/or cancelled the party. Yet, the wedding cake shown above is a rare exception.
And Then All The Rules Flew Out The Window
This bride and groom plan a smallish wedding for 50 plus guests during October 2020 only to have Virginia reduce inside events to a maximum of 25 guests in December when the wedding is to take place. We end up catering TWO back to back wedding receptions of 25 guests each with a 2 hour break in between to clean and sanitize the reception hall. In other words: a solution to catering during COVID.
Still We Are Catering In A Changing Landscape
The restaurant and service industry is being pummeled. Not safe for months to be together to celebrate the milestones of our lives. No wedding receptions, birthday celebrations, graduations, memorial services, anniversaries. So many people are working remotely therefor office celebrations of any type are no longer possible. Catering By Teatime is famous for our Tea Menu, a classic menu for baby or bridal shower, memorials, open houses. Still, what we CAN do is adjust. We can adapt our menus to provide Covid safe menu options
So A Decision Of Creating Safe Catered Food Options
Our beautiful fruit arrangements are on a tiered stand with individual portions of seasonal fresh fruit. Teatime assorted cheeses with crackers are in small individual servings. A fresh vegetable basket is now individual cups of fresh veggies with a shot glass of dip. If a menu item can be served in a shot glass, let’s give it a shot. We present menu items on individual bamboo skewers and on toothpicks. Our waitstaff are always gloved and masked. Staff continually wipe down surfaces, open windows and doors, and maintains a safe distance. Our masked staff serve a delicious buffet. And their eyes are smiling.
